This ele­gant design depicts the fleur de lys, a styl­ized ver­sion of an iris flower, which has been used as both a dec­o­ra­tive and a sym­bol­ic emblem by almost all civ­i­liza­tions through­out his­to­ry. It is par­tic­u­lar­ly asso­ci­at­ed with the French monar­chy and is an endur­ing sym­bol of France. The fire­back has been an indis­pens­able part of the fire­place tra­di­tion in Europe since the 15th Cen­tu­ry. The colonists the tra­di­tion to Amer­i­ca and today you can add this clas­sic touch of ele­gance and his­to­ry to your own fire­place. Fire­backs are designed to rest on the floor of the hearth, but Fire­back Sup­ports or Feet may also be used to hold this fire­back upright and raise it off the hearth if extra height is desired.
